I've been using LP guides exclusively for a couple years now, and usually found them quite helpful, however I was extremely disappointed with the portugal guide that i used for a one week trip in early November 2014. A couple of my strongest gripes include:- No guide to the trams and trains in Lisbon and Porto. We had an extremely difficult time finding some of the pick up places.- No mention of the season-closure times for certain wine tasting places in Porto- Unhelpful map to navigate some of the smaller towns, including Evora.I do not recommend this guide. Ultimately, we had to resort to using our iphones/international data plans to find many of the places i expected to be able to find through the guide.
This was a great travel book for our two week trip during the Summer of 2015. Sadly we lost the book somewhere in Tomar, but it did help us plan our most of our trip and find hidden gems, especially in Porto. The recommendations were spot on for a couple in their late 20's-early 30's, and we loved how much detail the book provided. I found it very easy to use and I will purchase from the Lonely Planet collection for my next trip.
Trip finished. This book was helpful. The layout of the information seemed to be awkward. Have purchased numerous Lonely Planet Guides for other destinations. This one did not seem as clear and helpful. Not enough maps/detail. Better than nothing. But, not great!
Normally I love the Lonely Planet guides, but this one was not my favorite. I wound up asking for lots of help and advice from locals because I couldn't find what I needed in the book.
A good, comprehensive guide for tourists who are interested in sightseeing throughout Portugal and want a choice of good possibilities for lodging, eating, shopping, and entertainment at a moderate price level. It is a good complement to Rick Steves'guide to Portugal.
Very helpful for out trip and covers more less frequented places than Rick Steves which we also had.
Love Lonely Planet but the chapter on Lisbon was a bit difficult to use as they divide all the neighborhood listings based on the type of listing and not by neighborhood. Whereas I would have preferred they list all the places to go in one neighborhood together.
