For any Catholic or Christian interested in learning about practicing mindfulness and how it might be integrated with their faith this book offers a sound perspective. It is practical and offers exercises on mindfulness meditation, body scan and loving kindness to name a few. While it is very practical it also offers enough theory and theology to satisfy those more interested in the cognitive underpinnings of these practices. The book has received some criticism as being non-Catholic but I would strongly disagree with this perspective. While these practices are a different type of prayer or meditation than many Christians are accustomed to they are far from non-Christian. This book, in combination with Discernment of Spirits by Timothy Gallagher, have been tremendous gifts to my spiritual growth and inner peace. I can't say enough about what a valuable tool mindfulness has been to seeing the the movements of mind and body, and then creating the space to be intentional about how I respond to those movements, rather than mindlessly reacting to them. It has made my relationships with my thoughts and with my body much healthier. Anxiety, stress, and relationship tensions have reduced. My inner peace has grown. I am more efficient with my time, and problem solve more effectively. It also helps me see more clearly God's hand in my life. It's hard to imagine one book can impact so many areas of life, but it can, and it does!

This practice of Catholic Mindfulness has greatly strengthened me emotionally and spiritually. Learning about my brain/body connection has given me better ways of coping with difficulties. As my ability to be present to the present moment calmly has increased, so has my capacity to pray. I continue to revisit the material and practice mindfulness. In a gentle, gradual fashion, Dr. Bottaro illustrates both the whys and hows of mindfulness, even providing free companion audio exercises, which were invaluable in implementing a daily practice of mindfulness- it really seemed like I was given all the help necessary to begin the journey. The clarity with which this book was written was such that I came away convinced of the fact that this simple (while not always easy) solution has the power to improve every area of my life.

Vitz (nationally and internationally acclaimed Catholic psychologist, professor and author) endorsed this book, writing: “If people follow its program, many psychologists will be out of work.†I can attest to that!
