I loved this book. It was an honest look at love, heartbreak, and friendship. It is beautiful. To be honest, the thing that drew me to this book was the cover. It is absolutely beautiful. I had cover lust when I first saw it, and wanted the book because of it alone. Just—everything about that cover. I bought this book because of the cover alone, and it was the best decision I made.I’m so much better with imaginary people and their imaginary lives. -pg. 79The main character, Emi is in highschool, interning as a set designer that her on-again-off-again girlfriend, Morgan, got for her. After having been broken up with for the sixth time, she needs something to distract her from her heartache. When she and her best friend Charlotte attend the estate sale of the late Clyde Wilder, it leads them to Ava. She is unlike anyone that Emi has ever met, and soon, she finds herself with a crush on Ava.What’s the use in waiting until the right moment if that moment never comes?“ I say. "What if the moment escapes you in a split second when your focus was elsewhere? -pg. 284Besides the Emi's story, I learned more about the movie industry than I thought I would. It was a look into the magic that goes into the movie sets, and just how much work it is. I loved that. When books usually deal with the movie industry, it's with actors, actresses, producers, directors, etc. But this one was behind the scenes, and I loved that. For all that I loved Emi and Ava, my favorite character was probably Charlotte. She was there for Emi through everything. She is the friend that I hope I am to my friends-someone who is there through thick and thin, and is the shoulder to lean on and the person to vent to. I just loved her.I blew through this book. I was finally able to sit down with it last night, and once I did, I couldn't put it down. This is a great, light read, something that would be a good summer read. Nina LaCour's writing is beautiful. Definitely give this book a try!
LeCour's novel is all about relationships - the various bindings and unbindings that join the lives of her characters. Emi is a capable narrator, but it is in the secondary characters that this book shines. Emi's best friend, Charlotte,is the kind of friend we all need and hope to be for others. Jamal, Toby, and Emi's professor parents all bring valuable attributes to the storyline. For fans of Hold Still, Everything Leads to You may prove a little far-fetched, but overall it is a good story of teenagers, love, and the twists and turns that make us who we are.
What a beautifully written book filled with flawed characters who nevertheless manage to behave in completely realistic, yet mature ways. We don't always know what to say to people when they're hurting and so sometimes we don't say anything and sometimes that's just fine. People forgive or they don't. People move on. I applaud Nina LaCour for not forcing her characters into trite behavior for the sake of plot. The romance is secondary to the story, but is ultimately what holds and binds the story together.
What a fun and charming summer read. I flew through the pages and really enjoyed going on Emi’s journey with her. If you’re looking for light contemporary reads for the summer, this is definitely a book to pick up.What makes it stand out from other YA contemporaries is the setting. It’s entirely set in the Hollywood film world. The reader is taken behind the scenes with Emi’s job to see all the effort and thought that goes into how movie sets are constructed. I had never really put much focus into looking at set designs when watching movies until now.Emi’s world is a neat one to jump into for a fresh perspective, plus I really enjoyed her voice. It’s a wonderful story with excellent writing on Nina Lacour’s part. If you’re a fan of YA contemporaries, check this one out before the summer is through because, let’s be honest, a nice light contemporary adventure pairs perfectly with the summer time.
After reading books like Her Name In The Sky, Good Moon Rising, Keeping You A Secret and so on, I was looking for more than just a book about young romance and being physical. This book was absolutely amazing. I felt so overwhelmed and captivated by the entire story. This isn't one of those books that just talk about girls liking girls and the struggle. This book is raw and more like real life is. You will not be disappointed!
I can't really tell you why I liked this book. Maybe, it was the way, it got me thinking about the small details, that I normally overlook while watching movies. Maybe, it was the way it gave me the feels, at just the right moment. I Don't know. I just did.
Of course I was begging to see more of them together at the end but it does leave off at a wonderful place full with possibilities. Although this tells of an epic love story the story feels also familiar, like you could turn around and experience close to the same thing because everything feels so real. I fell in love with this story and it was difficult to put down because I was desperate to see what happened next.
This book is way deeper than a romance novel. It explored the complex relationships of a family unknown, the concept of not waiting to take chances, and accepting life's surprises as they come. This book was amazing as well as a love letter to the behind the scenes of cinema and I can honestly say that I will look deeper into the sets of movies that I watch from now on. Anyone who is looking to be inspired to do more and to love and understand more should give this a read, you won't regret it.
