I'm so glad I made time in my already full life to read this book. When you homeschool, it can feel like you never have any spare time, but this was worth the read for me. Melissa's "writing voice" is personable/relateable. I'm in my second year of homeschooling my two boys (8 and 17) but there is so much information out there that I still feel like a newbie and I probably will feel that way for a long time. The information she includes about learning styles was really helpful to me. This book is full of suggestions for trips that are low cost or free and ways to transform your "homeschool" environment into a "all world" experience, which makes the learning so much richer. Children who have the benefit of growing up with this really receive a first class education that I think all teachers dream of being able to provide to their students. All the ideas are fairly simple, you just need to have the idea in the first place, and then know what to do with it.My favorite chapter is chapter 8 "Technology and Field Trips". This chapter is full of things that I can use here at home or in the car on the way to the store, which is just so valuable to me! I appreciate the details given on planning these sorts of adventures and how to find them in the first place. I enjoyed reading the book and now that I'm done with it, this book will stay close. The ideas in it will be a go to resource for many years. Even if we went back to public school, this book would be a useful tool to help me supplement the traditional curriculum. In short, this book can help me plan and have ideas about schooling on a professional level, because I'm drawing from the perspective of someone who has been doing it for almost 20 years. So glad to have found it.
I appreciate the research and insight offered in this text about just how beneficial fieldtrips are for children and the fact they don't have to be overcomplicated affairs. My only wish is that a bit more time was spent on how to translate these adventures into intentional educational opportunities for portfolio records.

I want to home school, but I’m scared of all the “what ifs†or “can I handle itsâ€. This book basically explain how I need to pull up my big girl panties and stop being afraid. The author explains how much more homeschooled kids can travel and get hands on experience. They will be happier and I’ll be happier teaching my kids too! Great quick read with lots of ideas.
I appreciated all of the practical advice in this book from how to take field trips with various ages to how to make the most of your field trip before, during, and after. Every homeschool would benefit from incorporating field trips and this book provides a great starting point.
