first book from the Navigators- and I am not sold on their style. Nor is our bible study leader.I got the Kindle version - so I can make my responses to the questions on the notes feature. It works well - but I think that Kindle gets the credit for that. I take my laptop to bible study with me and have the Bible App open next to the book. I click back and forth.I am used to a study bible, and while the entire class is using this book, it seems to be lacking vs my (paper) study bibles. Little insight. Lots of questions. No indication of what their answer is.Some questions have been labeled as 'stupid' by our study leader - and we skip over them.This is my first study of the Minor Prophets and this book seems to lack the list of the books - the why question and context and the reaction to the prophecy isn't addressed.Maybe this is Navigator style - but it seems to be a very diluted approach.
Core content is very good. I like the additional context to help fit it in the overall timeline in the OT. The part that throws me a bit is the Optional Application and For Further Study side-bars. Most, if not all, refer to the previous book/chapter of study. I found it to be distracting and broke the rhythm of the current chapter. What I would have found more helpful is to go more in depth with the current book or cues to think about how it relates to current events/situations today.If the author meant to reveal a bridge between books, it missed the mark with me. While there are common themes among the books by the minor prophets, the sections did little to enhance my study of each of them.
Using this for personal study and to teach Sunday School. The basic questions pretty much stick to the text and there are questions on the side which allow you to go further and look at different scriptures that add richness to your study.I really enjoy the Life Change series.
We have used the life-change Bible study for years in our Friday morning men's group and this one, like all the others does an excellent job
It's a lot of reading but it will give you insights into God's heart that you may not have seen before.
Very easy to read approach to learning the minor prophets in the Bible. I would recommend for anyone that is looking to learn more in depth about some of the shorter books in the old testament that can sometimes be overlooked.
