On the Island of Stormsay there are two special clans that can do something amazing- they can jump into books- literally. It is their sworn duty to protect the book world. Once, though, there was a fire and a manuscript got ruined. They saved what characters they could, but they would never have the story again.              Enter Amy and her mother Alexis, come to Alexis' childhood home for the first time in order to forget the things going on in Germany. This is the first that Amy has heard of her gift, but what bibliophile wouldn't be thrilled? She takes classes with the other Jumpers and goes first into The Jungle Book. From there she learns that she can link to other books, and that she can jump from anywhere. She starts noticing things going wrong in the book world, though. Core ideas in stories (Dorothy's cyclone, Dorian's painting, and the talking rabbit from Wonderland) are going missing. Amy and a few bookish friends have to find out what's going on and fix it before the stories are irrevocably lost.             Okay, who hasn't dreamed of being able to jump into their favorite story, to talk to one of the characters? This book gave me that dream again as I lived vicariously through Amy. I loved her interaction with Werther and Shere Khan. I adored the idea behind the book world, the characters and the book village (where you can but a happy ending, and drink ink cocktails). While I found issue with several characters, Betsy for instance was a bit one dimensional, I still love this book with my whole heart. It made me a kid again for a little while, with it's charming premise. Also, it has to be said, I love that cover. I saw the cover months before, and even before I knew what the book was wholly about I knew I would own it. It also made me want to read The Jungle Book, The Little Prince, A Midsummer Night's Dream (again) and The Odyssey. Oh, and Sherlock Holmes! Honestly, I cannot gush long enough about this book! Five Stars plus one for creativity!           On the adult content scale, it is severely minor. There is some violence, some talk of bullying. Nothing major. I would give this to my coworkers nine year old (combined, perhaps, with a dictionary). I give it a two at most.

I am so excited to read a book by a foreign author. Mechthild Gläser is a German author and I have to say that this book was amazing! From the very concept of the book through to the ending. One of the characters having Peter Pan as his favorite story helps boost my love for this novel. Seriously, I know that I have wished to live inside books for some time now. Science needs to catch up to Star Trek and create me a holodeck, like yesterday. On a small island in Scotland, there are two families who can literally jump into books. I am super jealous and wish this was a real thing. It was fun jumping into the different plots of some of my favorite books with the main character, Amy. Alice in Wonderland, Oliver Twist and The Wizard of Oz, just to name a few. These two families have a job and it is to protect the book world and make sure everything stays on track. I especially loved when the chaos began to happen and the author gave us a peek into how said chaos could impact the real world. Imagine noticing that your favorite story has changed when you read it. Dorothy cannot get to Oz without the tornado. Captain Hook wouldn't be Captain Hook without the loss of his hand. So keeping the stories on track is an important task for these two families. You know what? Honestly, I would love to see a story fall apart and imagine what each character would do.The hard part about writing a book where a reader can jump into the book world is that you have so many readers that can imagine a book world of their own. It can be hard for a reader to take themselves out of the equation, especially, when they love books as much as the main character does.  I personally, loved the way that this book developed and there is very little that I would change, had I written it. But I didn't and I love it too much to even whisper anything bad about it. I do wish that there were more books that stayed in this world but it is a stand alone. *sad face*I recommend this to anyone who would enjoy learning how someone protects the book world and what chaos can ensue when things go awry.

Compared to her fun novel “The Forgotten Book” The Book Jumper fell flat for me. Very little character development. Not a lot of detail went into describing the numerous settings. Such potential to bring the reader into a well detailed world but instead it was brief and bland. The plot jumped around a lot. But not in an intelligent, intentional way. It felt choppy. Like taking a tour of an amazing museum but the tour guide keeps cutting each segment short for no apparent reason. The writing lacked energy and character. Therefore I wasn’t able to connect with any character.I wouldn’t recommend this book. I didn’t even bother to finish it.

I read this a while back and realized it would be a great book for my granddaughter who loves to read mysteries. It has just enough fantasy to satisfy the fairytale lover in me and the mystery was a fun one. I enjoyed it so much I had to buy a copy for her for her birthday.

I liked the story and the characters, but the end felt abrupt. The author left several unanswered questions. Perhaps this was deliberate to leave room for a sequel, but it felt unfinished.

This book whips you into a world where you can jump into your favorite books and interact with characters in the margins. I could not get enough!! Fabulously written!

The book is decent, though the ending is a bit predictable and seems to be trying to hard to be both tragic and beautiful. It's decent. That's really all I can say of it. It leave much to be answered as well. Meh.

I really wanted to love this book. I really did. It was okay. I finished it. But I don’t think I enjoyed it.There was a gratuitous overuse of exclamation points, and at some points it just dragged. The end was engaging, but other than that I just finished for the sake of completing it.
