Of the 17 or so travel guidebooks I've written, this one is my favorite. Tucson has become a special city to me, and finding 100 Things to Do here proved surprisingly easy -- in fact, I had to cut some items I would have liked to include to get it down to 100. I wrote this book so that it would appeal to Tucsonans and visitors alike. Residents of Tucson can use it as a reminder of things they'd long planned to do but had never gotten around to doing -- or, in many cases, learned about something entirely new to do here. They can also hand the book to their out-of-town guests who can then flip through it and find activities that interest them. Of course, visitors to the city, newcomers, and snowbirds -- who spend several months of the year here in winter but may not know the breadth of activities available in Tucson -- will all find the book valuable and easy to use. There's no need to plow through thousands of words in fine print to find the places you want to go and see -- each "thing" gets one page and you can tell instantly if it's right for you. Categories include food and drink, music and entertainment, sports and recreation, history and culture, and shopping and fashion. There are also tips for making the best use of many of the attractions as well as suggested itineraries for families, special occasions, "rough and ready" activities, and more. Norton ‘s book is great as part of a travel planning exercise. But it’s real genius lies in the reminders to Tucsonans that the Old Pueblo still has an offbeat loveability. So many gems of restaurants and shops were lost in the Great Recession that it’s sometimes hard to see past the new big box stores and chain restaurants. This book takes a deeper look.
This is an easy to read, wonderful reference. I read the entire book from cover to cover right after receiving it early. I loaned it to my neighbors to use with their upcoming visitors to Tucson. I hope Mr. Norton writes sequels!
Brilliant. I moved to Tuscon for only six months and this was my guide throughout. I love the quirky entries that my Tucson friends have never heard of! It inspired me to see so many things that I might have missed - and I ticked off 44 before the end of the six months. Thank you, thank you - my stay in Tucson would have been less fun-filled without this book.
I got this for my friend who recently moved to Tucson. It's a decent little book with brief explanations of things to see and do in the area.
With our potential move to Tucson this was a great starter book to get a feel but also serve later as a specific reference book. We will keep it in the first pouch of the backpack as we explore Tucson!
